Talks take place on Thursday afternoons, starting at 2pm, and usually take place in the Lecture Hall, Rewley House, 1 Wellington Square, Oxford OX1 2JA. These are free for Oxford u3a members but you are welcome to attend as a guest for a donation of £5 (£2 for members of all other U3As).
Most talks are recorded on Zoom for the benefit of those Oxford u3a members who are unable to attend Rewley House.

John Tyler – The World of Fungi

John Tyler has worked in nature conservation for over 25 years, first with the Ecological Parks Trust creating urban nature reserves for city children to experience wildlife at first hand and then as the Warden of the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve in Kent, where he created and managed habitats and led school and adult groups around the reserve. He is a former Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society and has a particular fondness for Glow-worms. As well as wildlife, his interests include photography, prehistory, carving and coracles.
Fungi are colourful, beautiful and edible (except the ones which are deadly poisonous!). This talk explores the diversity of the fungal kingdom, introduces some of the species to be found locally, looks at their often bizarre lives and discusses why they are so vital to life on Earth.
