TIME AND PLACE
Meetings will be in The Cosy Club, Cornmarket on alternate Mondays in the afternoon, 1.30 – 3.30pm, starting from Monday 10 Feb 2025.
In order to fully enjoy the subject, one first needs to have a general appreciation of the great sweep of Western thought, as provided for example by Bertrand Russell in his History of Western Philosophy. The intention for the group is to take a guided tour through this splendid landscape at a measured pace from the Ancient Greeks through to the 21st Century. We should be able to do it in about 20 sessions or so, at a rough estimate.
Some background reading will be needed, and book recommendations will be made. The group is only just starting, and has some vacancies. No deep prior knowledge will be needed. If you have a little curiosity about Socrates, Plato and Aristotle and what they said, that is easily enough!
