Professor Tim Coulson – The Universal History of Us: the Science of Why We Exist

28th November 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Tim Coulson is Professor of Zoology, University of Oxford and Professorial Fellow of Jesus College.

Have you ever wondered why you exist? Tim Coulson has, and after nearly dying from malaria, he spent 30 years investigating what science could tell him about his existence. In this talk, and his recent book, The Universal History of Us, he weaves scientific insight into how we came to be alive and conscious with parts of his story. Spanning 13.77 billion years, and covering physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, and psychology, the Oxford Professor of Zoology will explore whether our existence was inevitable at the birth of the universe or if we are just incredibly lucky.
