Talks take place on Thursday afternoons, starting at 2pm, and usually take place in the Lecture Hall, Rewley House, 1 Wellington Square, Oxford OX1 2JA. These are free for Oxford u3a members but you are welcome to attend as a guest for a donation of £5 (£2 for members of all other U3As).

Most talks are recorded on Zoom for the benefit of those Oxford u3a members who are unable to attend Rewley House.

Maurice East -‘Rent Strike in Little Rhondda’ – Homes Fit for No One in 1930s Florence Park. How the Growth of Morris Motors Brought Miners, Communists and Cowboy Builders to Cowley.

Maurice East was born and raised in Headington, Oxford, and specializes in researching and telling some of the lesser-known stories about the city. He is particularly interested in the history of car production in Oxford and how the rise of the factory impacted on the urban, social, and political landscape. He has strong family connections to the factory, and is passionate about telling the stories of the people who worked there. In addition to public speaking, he also devises and leads original walking tours around the city.
