Talks take place on Thursday afternoons, starting at 2pm, and usually take place in the Lecture Hall, Rewley House, 1 Wellington Square, Oxford OX1 2JA. These are free for Oxford u3a members but you are welcome to attend as a guest for a donation of £5 (£2 for members of all other U3As).

Most talks are recorded on Zoom for the benefit of those Oxford u3a members who are unable to attend Rewley House.

Professor David Willis – Tweetolectology: Using Social Media to Map Linguistic Variation and Change

David Willis has been Jesus Professor of Celtic at the University of Oxford since 2020, having previously held academic appointments at the Universities of Manchester and Cambridge. He has published widely on grammatical change and the history of the Welsh language. His books include The Syntax of Welsh and the two-volume History of Negation in the Languages of Europe and the Mediterranean. He is currently preparing A History of Welsh for publication by Oxford University Press.
