Professor Finn Fordham – Introducing James Joyce

11th May 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Finn Fordham teaches at Royal Holloway, University of London and is a scholar of James Joyce, modernism, and the culture of the 1930s.  He has written and edited several books, including Finnegans Wake for Oxford World Classics. James Joyce has been considered by many to be one of the greatest novelists who ever lived.  What typically are the grounds provided for this judgement?  With excerpts from each of his four major works, he will try to give evidence that backs up Joyce’s own curious boast about his writing: ‘I have discovered I can do anything with language I want’ (Richard Ellmann, James Joyce, pp. 661–2).
